LEARN MORE – STATEMENT BACK WEDDING DRESSES FAQ

A statement back creates an unforgettable look from behindso given the amount of time that a bride is seen from the back, it is an important factor in choosing a wedding dress. This can be achieved through a showstopping veil like our Madi Lane Wimmer Veil or Madi Lane Nettle Veil, but is also a key feature of the dress itself. It is also another angle for the bride to feel seen and beautiful.

Depending on the style of the wedding dress, different design techniques can be used to create a statement back. Read on for a list of the types of design used on Madi Lane styles:

  • Trains –  a train leads the eye from dress to drape to floor and is an alternative to a veil for a similar effect, like on our Madi Lane Oak wedding dress or Nicola-Eve wedding dress. For a modern elevation, choose a statement neck collar/train accessory, like our Madi Lane Orient wedding dress or Oasis wedding dress.
  • Low cut – the low cut draws the eye down the back to the waist, and is an alluring touch even on a dress that may not be fitted, like on our Madi Lane Oakland wedding dress, or Nellie wedding dress.
  • Corset tie back – borrowed from vintage times, the tie back cinches the waist, and is a very feminine touch to achieve the hourglass shape, like on our Madi Lane Nash wedding dress or Madi Lane Ozari wedding dress.
  • Illusion corsetry – allows any lace pattern or boning to frame the bodice, and is a sexy and alluring feature from the peek of skin, like on our Madi Lane Watson wedding dress or Orion wedding dress.
  • Scarf – a scarf which is styled front to back, drapes beautifully from the shoulders to fall behind, and is a very chic addition like on our Madi Lane Ora wedding dress.
  • Overskirt – an overskirt can be used to change the silhouette completely, and often is dramatic in length, like on our Madi Lane Walsh wedding dress.

Both fitted and A-line wedding dresses can successfully feature a statement back design. The ‘wow’ factor can be achieved through crafted seam lines which flatter and the curves, or additional elements as listed above.

Yes! Given the many different design options which can create that unforgettable statement look from behind, means there are ones to suit all brides. If you need extra support through the bodice, avoid low-cut back or corset tie – you will achieve the best support with a higher back and zip closure. If you plan to wear a veil, you may not want to include a trailing feature, like a scarf or train unless the full look has been designed with complementing accessories in mind

No. A statement back is not necessarily overtly sexy, or dependent on showing a lot of skin. Many statement looks are achieved with romantic timeless touches, such as bows, trains and scarves which simply elevate the look to really capture every moment of the special day.
