Tell us your proposal story.

Lily and Brooks’ journey started as children. Meeting in school and growing up in the same town and same circles, two parallel lines that hadn’t yet crossed. It wasn’t until high school that, after many years of a crush, Brooks made a move and asked her out for the first time. The two have been together ever since.

“We met in 6th grade english class, although I didn’t know we even had class together, but my now husband did. He had been crushing on me since then, but it wasn’t until 8th grade (when I started dating his best friend) that I really noticed him. Over the next 2 years, he started going to the church I attended and we eventually became better friends. During our Sophopmore of high school (10th grade), after Wednesday night church, we went to Chick-fil-A with all of our friends and he asked me to homecoming. We went to Chick-fil-A every Wednesday evening so it was nothing new, and Brooks (my husband) and I hadn’t spoken many words to each other up to this point so when he asked me to homecoming it was a real surprise. Obviously, I said yes, and our relationship started there. Over the next few years most everything was perfect, except he almost went to Princeton to play football (17 hours away from our hometown). We were in love so we knew we would try long-distance, but it was still very sad. Fortunately, he surprised me by taking a “preferred walk-on” position at the SEC school I was planning on attending! We then spent the next 3 years together, pursing the same degree and being in the same classes. I went to as many of his football games as I could, and he went to as many of my sorority events as he could make. Eventually, the summer after our Junior year of college, he proposed.”

The proposal Brooks planned was romantic, thoughtful, and everything our bride always dreamed of.

“Brooks proposed to me at the Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks. He set up a blanket with a basket of calla lilies and hired a photographer to capture the proposal. He got on one knee and read me a beautiful speech, and then proposed. It was so beautiful, thoughtful, and everything he didn’t even know that I wanted. After the proposal, he told me to get dressed nicely and that we were going to be going to a nice dinner to celebrate! Little did I know he had invited all of our friends over to one of my best friend’s house to celebrate! People drove hours to come celebrate with us and it was the most special moment ever.”

Which Madi Lane gown did you fall in love with, and why?

Lily’s dream dress was our Woodrow fit and flare gown, styled with the coordinating detachable overskirt. Giving our bride two looks in one for each moment of her special day! She fell in love with the gown for the overskirt, the large floral lace appliqué and sparkle.

“Inverness Bridal was where I found my dress. I had tried on many other dresses but nothing was giving me the emotion that I was looking for. I have a pretty good figure so I tend to lean towards tight dresses, but I wanted the drama of a ballgown style. Fortunately, right before we gave up looking, the store owner pulled Woodrow and after trying it on, I immediately knew that it was my dress! The overskirt gave me the drama, while the underneath showed my figure. The lace details were perfect since they didn’t cover the whole dress, and the sparkle gave that “wow” factor I was wanting. It was everything.”

Where did you get married? Tell us about the location, and style of your wedding.

Lily and Brooks said ‘I do’ in Arkansas, surrounded by grand mountains and keeping it classic with a black and white theme.

“Plentywoods Venue in Elkins, AR It was a more classic wedding, but it kept true to our southern roots. The theme was black, white, and a touch of green with candles and silver accents. This venue gave us the most incredible mountains in the background and all-around elevated the ambiance.“

What was your favourite moment from the big day?

“My husband and I were trying to take our portraits together but the wind was so strong that my dress wouldn’t stay down. My best friend Kassidy was brave enough to hang out under my dress and hold the overskirt/ train down for me while we took our pictures!! My friend savannah got a video of it on a home video camcorder and the whole thing just felt like a feel-good movie.”

What advice would you share with future Madi Lane Brides?

“Give the dress a chance! I didn’t pick Woodrow to try for myself because I couldn’t envision how it looked on me from being in the bag. I’m SO glad I did try it on because I’m still OBSESSED with it even after the wedding!”

Congratulations Lily and Brooks!
